Botulinum toxin is a comfortable, non-invasive way to reduce and reverse the effects of ageing. It is an injection that paralyses to some extent some facial muscles and hence reduce the wrinkle-inducing effect of facial expressions, without altering it in a noticeable way.
The botulinum toxin interrupts the connection between the muscle and nerve, avoiding the transmission of the nervous impulse and achieving relaxation of the muscle. The results are visible in 24 to 48 hours.
The botulinum toxin is injected in the treated area with a very small needle. The minimal discomfort caused by the injections can be further reduced by the application of an anesthetic cream to the treated area.
The effect takes a couple of days to appear to its full extent, and its results slowly disappear after six months to a year. The treatment can be, and often is, administered jointly with other procedures, such as filler injections.
