Excessive perspiration can be an embarrassing and uncomfortable condition, albeit one that can be almost entirely diminished with the use of botulinum toxin. The activity of sweat glands is regulated by a neurotransmitter called acetylcholine, because botulinum toxin blocks the release of this neurotransmitter it is an ideal treatment to regulate this condition also know as hyperhidrosis.
Once it is established that the patient suffers from this condition in certain areas, like armpits, palms and soles of feet, the treatment is recommended. The procedure consists in the injection of the toxin (with a very small needle) in the affected area in a cluster-like arrangement.
The effect is very rapid, one to three days, and lasts from four to 12 months.
